Alumni Stories

Aaron Lau

Community Builder, Educator & Mentor
Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours), Class of 2020

Some people build careers. Others build communities.

Since graduating from PolyU SPEED in 2020, Aaron Lau has dedicated himself to connecting people through education, mentorship, and service. From supporting students and young graduates to strengthening alumni engagement and community initiatives, he believes meaningful connections are the foundation of lasting impact.

“Alumni connections are not only about memories, but also about opportunities — opportunities to learn, to network, and to inspire one another.”

When Aaron Lau enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) programme at PolyU SPEED, he saw education as more than an academic qualification. It was an opportunity to broaden perspectives, develop new skills, and contribute meaningfully to society.

After graduating in 2020, Aaron continued his commitment to lifelong learning and community service. His professional journey has spanned education, management consulting, mediation, and community leadership, but a common thread remains throughout his work: connecting people and creating opportunities for others to grow.

As a long-serving CPCE Mentor, Aaron has supported students and young graduates as they navigate their academic and professional journeys. Beyond mentorship, he actively contributes to alumni development, educational initiatives, and community organizations, promoting collaboration between students, alumni, educators, professionals, and community stakeholders.

“Alumni connections are not only about memories, but also about opportunities — opportunities to learn, to network, and to inspire one another.”

Aaron believes alumni associations should serve as more than social platforms. They should foster lifelong learning, support future leaders, preserve institutional heritage, and create meaningful value for generations of graduates.

Today, Aaron continues to champion education, mentorship, and community engagement. His journey reflects the spirit of PolyU SPEED, where learning extends beyond graduation and success is measured not only by personal achievement, but also by the positive impact we create for others and our communities.

Jason Chen
Creative Director, Nova Digital Agency | Class of 2015

When Jason Chen enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied and Media Arts at PolyU SPEED, he had a passion for design but lacked the confidence to navigate the competitive creative industry. Today, as the Creative Director of a leading digital agency, he credits his time at SPEED for providing the solid foundation and practical mindset that propelled his career forward.

"SPEED wasn't just about textbooks and lectures," Jason recalls. "It was about getting your hands dirty. The curriculum was intensely practical, and the lecturers were industry professionals who brought real-world challenges into the classroom. They taught us how to think critically, solve problems, and pitch our ideas effectively."

"The alumni network is one of the most underrated assets of SPEED. It's not just about who you know; it's about having a community that genuinely wants to see you succeed."

After graduating in 2015, Jason entered the workforce as a junior designer. The resilience and adaptability he developed at SPEED helped him stand out, eventually leading him to manage teams, oversee complex digital campaigns, and liaise directly with high-profile clients.

“The true value of education is not simply what we achieve for ourselves, but how we use our knowledge, experience, and opportunities to help others grow.”
